Environment and Conservation at Foremark Reservoir

ladybirdForemark Reservoir is a ‘wildlife site’ made up of over 500 acres of mixed woodland and grassland habitat and around 230 acres of open water.  The site also includes Carver’s Rocks SSSI which is managed on our behalf by the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.

Foremark is an excellent site for wildlife, supporting a rich diversity of species with over 200 bird species, 27 butterfly species and 300 moth species recorded on site.

A number of successful conservation projects have been completed on site including the tree sparrow initiative, bird ringing programme, the barn owl project and the construction of a sand martin bank.

If you would like to become involved with conservation work at our sites you could join our volunteer ranger team!
